A WALK IN BELGIUM

A WALK IN BELGIUM.

Not a long time ago, we've been on a prospection journey in Belgium. The prospection's journeys are a way to customize the attention and proximity with the customers; it's a way, too, in situ, to know the good acceptance of the materials, comment the works and know closely our clients.

In our recently journey to Belgium, in one of our visits, we could visit the workshop and show-room of one of our customers. At the show-room, among other ones, we've sawn two MOON GREY samples, bush-hammered and flammed.

At the workshop, we could check several of the projects and works they've worked with our materials. It drew our attention a shower tray; made of MOON GREY with the central part of the piece, with a sandblasted finish, while, the external part, as a frame, was made with a MOON GREY polished finish. We think it's an original work and the contrast between booth finishes, flattering.

We are so satisfied with the journey! See you soon, have a nice week-end!

RED SUNSET BUILDING

EDIFICIO RED SUNSET.

RED SUNSET BUILDING.

One of our best clients in Luxembourg sent us pictures of a building under construction. Despite it's not finished yet, it is very advanced its works.

We don't know what kind of building is, maybe it will be the headquarters of a company, an office building or a flat building.

What we certainly know is the building, is realized with one of our materials, the RED SUNSET

The RED SUNSET it is a resistant sandstone, special but especially, marks the difference for its particularity, be a red sandstone. All the projects made with this material presents a characteristical color contrast.
For this building they used two kind of finishes: honed and sawn cut and several grated pieces arranged in a decorative way.

The honed finish is a flat, smooth surface and without any visible mark; the tone is darker than other finishes, that, highlights the structure, the texture and the colors of the stone. It is a kind of finish get it with abrasion.

The sawn cut it's the natural cut of the stone and its surface presents a smooth appeareance.

Hope to show you soon the result of the building finished!

FIREPLACE IN PIERRE DU THOR

FIREPLACE IN PIERRE DU THOR.

The fireplaces, that element from the house with stone pavement, where to light a fire to heat up the house or to cook. That had been its most traditional uses althought for the ellaboration of smoking aliments, to make cheese or for cold meats, the fireplaces, played an important role.

With passing of time, fireplaces had been forgotten and useless and been abandoned in its immovable corners.

But always there's time to back to the origins to reinvent it.

Nowadays fireplaces have become that recovered element and in several flats, the fireplaces are beautiful decorative elements, giving a cozy air to the room.

We would like to show you a beautiful fireplace in Pierre du Thor. In this occasion with a sandblasted finish that despite its traditional design, with that kind of finish, get a roustic touch.
For a classical and elegant fireplace, with a polished finish, it could be a beautiful fireplace too.

The sandblasted finish is achieved by a rough surface and homogeneous, with small cavities uniformly distributed.

IN AN EXHIBITION AND IN PRESS.

From March 6th to 9th, was the 17th edition of China Xiamen International Stone Fair as, its name shows, took place in the city of Xiamen.

It's one of the most important international shows of the sector. Mármoles Moratonas were there with our starring material, the MOON GREY

Through one of our customers, the MOON GREY honed finish, was presented in the Xiamen show as Grigio Caos.

We leave you an image of the exhibition.

By another side, the digital magazine Focus Piedra, publishes an interview to the General Manager of Mármoles Moratonas, Salvador Moratonas. We leave you the link of the interview; the interview is in spanish but we leave the translation of it.

Salvador Moratonas is one of the men of the stone industry, with a long trajectory in the sector. The company he manages, Mármoles Hnos. Moratonas, began its activity in 1980 at the quarry of Montlleó de Castellgalí, located at the region of Bages (Barcelona) with his father, Salvador Moratonas Senior. Later, his brothers and sister, Jaume, Marcel, Jordi and Cristina, joined up to the company. Currently is one of the referenced companies of the sector, with 10.000 square meters of facilities with an annual with a capacity of 5.800 cubic meters and a new plant for the production of small floor tiles. And preparing the purchase of two more. Focus Piedra interviews Salvador Moratonas to know the plans of this company for this year and the future.

You are the third generation of the company. How were your beginnings in the company?
The beginnings were the base of what nowadays the project of our company is; but what I think it’s very important it’s the fourth generation that assumes the generational reliefs. Xantal as a Community Manager; Pol, Sílvia and Jaume, collaborate with the the shows we are in. We are talking about this fourth generation and count with it, is what it is really important, they are the future.

The company has evolved a lot last years. Which are the remarkable changes?
During this period of time, we’ve incorporated new exploitations as the Sant Vicenç-Moon Grey quarry, the Pierre du Thor quarry in Preixana, Lleida, the quarry in Alcañiz, Teruel, as preferential agreements in some cases and exclusive in others, as different materials quarries. Nowadays we have 4 concessions with 11 grids totally. We’ve incorporated and renovated machinery and open new markets.

You been acquiring several quarries along last years. Have you got the intention to increase the own stone brochure?
Yes, we hope to include unless one white stone quarry and another with black stone.

Your star product is your Moon Grey limestone. Why do you think this product fits so well in the market in front of the rest of the stones you commercialize?
What makes it an exclusive stone are its physical-mechanics characteristics, its homogeneity, independently   of its sizes precision, presentation and service.
The sandstones are the other big bet of your company. Which are the market segment with more possibilities for this kind of materials?
It depends of the market but it’s an alternative and could satisfy other tastes and demands.
You’ve supply materials for Korea, London or New York. Which is the volume of production you are exporting?
Nowadays the 50%, but I think we will get the 60% but the implantation in Spain is important and it is not to detract.

Which is the most interesting of your markets?
So many, but any especially because we have customers addicted to our materials and ways to work.

Are you worried about the possible protections measures of Donald Trump or the United Kingdom exit from the UE?
Yes, of course. Maybe we are more affected for the BREXIT, but it’s because aren’t public works, are private and the offer is minor.

Which do you think are the purchase tendency of the warehouses? What more they demand?
Logically the Moon Grey, more in slab than tile, but because of its rotation objectives, the stocks are the minimum. However our usual customers work for projects.

The United States has a specific certification that accredit the sustainable production for the extraction and elaboration for stone companies. Do you think it’s an interesting initiative to implant in Spain?
Yes of course. It’s a kind of rule we have as an internal order, would favor us, however, I wonder if it would be applied in in emergent countries with their products.
Which will be the plans for your Enterprise during 2017?
Urbanize the Access, enlarge the area of the factory and apply improvements at the quarry and the factory.

Funerary Art.

ARTE FUNERARIO.

FUNERARY ART.

Funeral art are the artwork and pieces located in repositories or in funeral monuments or architecture.
It's the known elder art, from the ancient civilizations till our days; well known examples are the funeral monument of Stonehenge in the United Kingdom, the pyramids of Egypt, the Taj Mahal in India or the Lincoln Funeral monument in the USA.

Last days in our factories, they've been working in several pieces that will be part of a coffin. The worked pieces are in flammed, polished, aged and honed finish and will be part of a collection of funerary art and soon, will travel to its destination.

The use of the natural stone it ennobles even more, this deeply tribute and homage to those who aren't no longer with us.

A PIERRE DU THOR BATHROOM

A PIERRE DU THOR BATHROOM.

A few days ago, we've shouwed you the use of the PIERRE DU THOR in outside spaces; today we would like to show you the use of our sandstone in inside spaces with the main bathroom of a village at Côte d'Azur in France.

The PIERRE DU THOR is a beige sandstone, with a big hardness thanks to its limestone components.

In this bathroom, it had been used the PIERRE DU THOR with a honed finish, a flat surface, smooth, matte, and without any visible mark.

The bathroom stands out for its tones, without shrillnes, in an elegant blend of materials. It's spacious and for its privileged ubication, has a good use of the natural light.
According the design line, it's plain but elegant, with a minimum vertical and horizontal design, giving a lightness sight to the bathroom.
